What is a VORTAC? Does it supply DME info?

A VORTAC is a VOR (VHF omnidirectional range) combined with a TACAN (tactical air navigation system). VORs are used in civil aviation and TACANs are used by the military. VORTACs provide DME (distance measuring equipment) that can be used by both civil and military equipment. However, you must have DME in your airplane to make use of it.
